Jose Mourinho sends message to Luke Shaw about his Man United future
Jose Mourinho says Luke Shaw is working well despite his lack of playing time at Manchester United this season
Jose Mourinho has urged Luke Shaw to stay at Manchester United and fight for his place in the first team at Old Trafford.
The defender has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the first team at Old Trafford this season following Mourinho’s appointment as the club’s new manager back in May.
Indeed, the 21-year-old has only been limited to six Premier League starts this season and has not featured in the top flight for Mourinho’s men since October.
There has been speculation about Shaw’s future beyond the summer given his lack of playing time at Old Trafford this term.
However, Mourinho has urged the England international to stay at Old Trafford and continue fighting for a first-team spot.
Mourinho is quoted as saying by The Daily Star: “He has to work and wait. Against Watford I wanted one defender on the bench and the defender is someone who can play in more than one position.
“(Matteo) Darmian can play left-back, right-back and an emergency central defender for us so my choice was Darmian.
“The only thing I can say is that Luke is working well. He doesn’t have any problem and he is working well. He is fighting hard. There is no problem with him. He is fighting hard.”
Manchester United were 2-0 winners over Watford on Saturday as they continued their bid to secure Champions League football for next season.
