Jose Mourinho: This is what I keep shouting at Anthony Martial at Man United

Jose Mourinho says he wants Anthony Martial to be more ruthless in his attacking play for Manchester United

Jose Mourinho has revealed that he has been encouraging Anthony Martial to be more ruthless in his attacking game for Manchester United.

The French striker has been in and out of the Red Devils’ first team this season and only made his 10th Premier League start of the campaign on Saturday against Watford.

Martial repaid his manager’s faith with a brilliant performance against the Hornets, as he set up one goal and scored another to help the Red Devils secure a 2-0 win.

The Manchester United manager was delighted to see Martial back in good form for the Red Devils against Watford.

And the Portuguese coach commented on the Frenchman’s performance after the Premier League game.

Speaking to MUTV after Saturday’s win, Mourinho said: “The Anthony Martial I want is the Martial of the last two weeks of training.

“If he trains the way he did in the past two weeks, he performs naturally the way he did today – or better.

“I think he is still missing a bit of his confidence. I kept shouting at him to attack the defender and go to the one-on-one as he needs that confidence but he’s working very well.

“Anthony needs to feel that I am looking at him and that I know what he did in training and the effort he put in. So I gave him his chance and he played well. He had a good game for me.”

Manchester United’s victory over Watford at Old Trafford left the Red Devils trailing Premier League leaders Chelsea by 11 points ahead of the Blues’ trip to Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
