Juan Mata: Jose Mourinho has made this change to my game at Man United
Juan Mata reveals that Jose Mourinho has asked him to get in the box more for Manchester United
Juan Mata has revealed that Jose Mourinho has asked him to occupy more attacking positions for Manchester United this season.
Mata has been one of Manchester United’s top performers this season following the appointment of Mourinho as the club’s new manager back in May.
The Spanish playmaker has scored six goals and made two assists in 20 Premier League games for Manchester United so far this season.
There had been suggestions that Mata could struggle for regular game-time under Mourinho given that the Portuguese coach was the man who opted to sell the Spaniard to Manchester United from Chelsea in January 2014.
However, the midfielder has been in good form so far this season and will be hoping to help Manchester United finish in the top four this season.
Speaking to United Review, Mata said: : “Well yes [Mourinho has asked me to get in the box more], I think he appreciates some different qualities from different players so whenever I play I always try to be in that position that allows me to create a chance or finish one.
“Sometimes you score, sometimes you don’t, but it’s important to always be in the right positions. I try to play with the ball – possession, passes, assists – but scoring goals has also been a big part of my career.”
Manchester United are currently preparing for their Europa League clash with Saint-Etienne on Thursday night at Old Trafford.
