Jurgen Klopp: I tried to sign Premier League star before I took over at Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp admits that he is a keen admirer of Christian Eriksen and tried to sign him for Borussia Dortmund
Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he is a huge admirer of Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen and that he tried to sign him when he was still in charge of Borussia Dortmund.
The Danish playmaker has earned a reputation as one of the Premier League’s top attacking talents since his arrival at Tottenham from Ajax in 2013.
Liverpool boss Klopp has admitted that he is a big fan of the playmaker and that he tried to bring him to Dortmund when he was in charge of the German club.
Speaking in an interview with Ekstra Bladet, Klopp said: “When I was in Dortmund we were very interested in Eriksen.
“But we had to choose between him, Mkhitaryan and De Bruyne.
“Christian Eriksen is a great player. Everyone would love to have him on their team.
“At that time we had three players, we went after – Henrikh Mkhitariyan, Kevin de Bruyne and Christian Eriksen.
“We scouted all three very intensely, but we knew we could only get one. We were happy to get Mkhitaryan”.
Klopp guided his Liverpool team to a 2-0 win over Tottenham in their most recent Premier League game at Anfield earlier this month.
The Reds are aiming to break back into the top four this season and are currently gearing up for their crunch clash with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Monday night.
Liverpool are currently fifth in the table and 11 points behind leaders Chelsea.
