Jurgen Klopp replies when asked if Liverpool can catch Chelsea
Jurgen Klopp discusses Liverpool's Premier League title hopes after their 2-0 win over Tottenham on Saturday
Jurgen Klopp has played down any chance of Liverpool catching Chelsea in the race for the Premier League title this season.
The Reds finally returned to winning ways in the top flight on Saturday night with an impressive 2-0 win over Tottenham at Anfield.
The Merseyside outfit suffered a dramatic slump in form in the opening weeks of 2017 to leave them considerably off the pace in the race for the title.
Chelsea drew 1-1 with Burnley on Sunday afternoon to leave Antonio Conte’s men flying high at the top of the Premier League table and 11 points ahead of Liverpool.
And Klopp was realistic about Liverpool’s hopes of catching Chelsea in the race for the title before the season is out.
Speaking at his post-match news conference on Saturday night, Klopp said: “What would you think if I said we could get them? Really ambitious or crazy? I am not too interested in this at the moment.
“The only possibility to win something is to win football games.
“We started, if you want, 2017 tonight. We should not go nuts immediately. Let’s take it step by step.
“Chelsea don’t look like they could struggle over the (remaining) week but we will try everything to get as many points as we can from the season.”
Klopp has been tasked with steering Liverpool back into the top four after their eighth placed finish in the top flight last season.
