Jurgen Klopp reveals long conversation with Chelsea boss Antonio Conte
Jurgen Klopp lifts the lid on his lengthy conversation with Chelsea boss Antonio Conte at Anfield last month
Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he had a lengthy talk with Chelsea boss Antonio Conte after the Blues’ 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield last month.
The Reds came from a goal down to earn a point from the clash on Merseyside as the race for the Premier League title hots up.
Conte is currently getting used to his first full season in charge in England following his appointment as Jose Mourinho’s permanent successor last summer.
The Italian coach has earned plenty of praise for steering Chelsea to the top of the Premier League table as they established themselves as the firm favourites to win the title this term.
Both Liverpool and Chelsea do not have the distraction of European football this season, and Klopp has revealed how he and Conte agreed on that being a big advantage for both of their teams.
Klopp is quoted as saying by The Daily Star: “December to January, not even Chelsea came through without no problems but they were able to play the same team all the time.
“They left the EFL Cup when, before it started? [fourth round] I don’t remember them playing one game in that competition.
“I spoke to Antonio [Conte] for a long time at Anfield, maybe 25 minutes, and he mentioned it [the fixture schedule] but said they could play the same 13-14 players all the time. That is the big difference.”
