Jurgen Klopp: This Liverpool star was outstanding against Spurs (not Sadio Mane)
Jurgen Klopp heaps praise on Roberto Firmino after the Brazilian's sparkling display for Liverpool against Tottenham
Jurgen Klopp singled out Roberto Firmino for special praise for his sparkling performance in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Tottenham at Anfield on Saturday night.
Sadio Mane grabbed the headlines with a quick-fire double in the first half as the Senegal international was named man of the match.
However, Firmino also earned plenty of praise for his sparkling display against Spurs as the Brazilian put in a tireless display.
And Klopp says that he has never seen Firmino perform so well for Liverpool.
Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Klopp said: “It was how we have to play against Tottenham.
“We had to show a reaction and it was perfect.
“It was an outstanding performance offensively in the first half, and defensively in the second half.
“We could have scored again. There were some outstanding individual performances. We understand it is a situation that we have to go through together.
“On a physical level there were some brilliant displays from Henderson, Wijnaldum, Firmino
“My God I don’t think I’ve seen a better performance from a striker without scoring.”
Liverpool’s win over Spurs lifted them up into fourth place in the Premier League as they bid to finish in the top four in Klopp’s first full season in charge at Anfield.
The Reds, who finished eighth last season, now have 15 days off as they prepare for their crunch trip to the King Power Stadium take on Leicester City on Monday 27 February.
