Jurgen Klopp’s response when asked about Liverpool forward’s injury scare
The Liverpool manager discusses Sadio Mane's injury scare during Chelsea's 1-1 draw at Anfield
Jurgen Klopp has spoken of his relief that Sadio Mane hadn’t suffered a serious injury after the Liverpool forward’s cameo in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Tuesday night.
The Senegal international returned from the Africa Cup of Nations on Monday after the Liverpool summer signing missed a decisive spot-kick in his national team’s penalty shootout to send them out of the major tournament.
Klopp opted to put Mane on the bench for the visit of the Premier League on Tuesday night but Liverpool supporters were left concerned after the winger appeared to have an ice pack on his knee after warming up in the first half.
The Liverpool boss brought on the African star for the final 15 minutes at Anfield but Mane couldn’t inspire a late winner despite replacing Philippe Coutinho.
Klopp, though, was horrified to see the winger icing his knee in the dressing room after the 1-1 stalemate.
Speaking to his post-match media conference at Anfield on Tuesday night, Klopp revealed that Mane appeared to be fine after the final whistle despite the ice pack.
“I didn’t ask until now but when he came into the dressing room, I saw I don’t know exactly what it was, but I had a look at it and said, ‘Oh my God, what’s happened?’ ‘All good, all good’ [Mane said]. Recovery prevention – cold, hot [packs]. I didn’t ask until now, but there are no problems.”
