Mourinho delivers latest Man United injury update ahead of Saint-Etienne clash
Jose Mourinho delivers the latest Manchester United team news ahead of Thursday night's Europa League clash
Jose Mourinho has confirmed that both Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick will not be involved when Manchester United take on Saint-Etienne in the last 32 of the Europa League on Thursday night.
The Red Devils are preparing for their first European game of 2017 as they bid to take a step closer towards qualifying for the round of 16.
Manchester United completed their final training session at Carrington before the game on Wednesday morning as they prepare for the Europa League clash.
Neither Rooney nor Carrick trained in front of the media at Carrington on Wednesday morning and Mourinho confirmed in his news conference shortly after that the pair would be rested for the game due to minor injury concerns.
Speaking at his pre-match news conference at Carrington on Wednesday afternoon, Mourinho said of the duo: “Wayne and Michael. I don’t want to say ‘injuries’ because I don’t think we are speaking about injuries.
“We are speaking about little problems and protection for these problems, so they are out tomorrow.”
Mourinho also confirmed that defender Marcos Rojo is available for Thursday’s game, but that Phil Jones is still recovering from the injury he suffered against Hull.
Manchester United head into the game on the back of their 2-0 win over Watford in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
