Marcos Alonso sends warning to Chelsea’s title rivals
Marcos Alonso says Chelsea will reap the benefits of not playing in Europe this season
Marcos Alonso believes that Chelsea have a significant advantage in the Premier League title race this season because of their lack of European football this term.
The Blues are currently the heavy favourites to win the top-flight title this season after their impressive start to the season under new boss Antonio Conte.
Chelsea are eight points clear of second-placed Manchester City as they bid to try and win the title in Conte’s first campaign at the club.
The west London side have the luxury of not having to worry about European football this season after the Blues ended up 10th in the table last term.
Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham and Manchester United all have European competition to contend with over the coming weeks.
And summer Chelsea signing Alonso believes that gives the Blues a significant advantage in the race for the top-flight crown.
Alonso told Spanish radio station Onda Cero: “The team is playing very well.
“We have adapted very well to the idea of the coach and we hope to continue this way until the end of the season.
“We are training a lot and very well.
“The team has understood perfectly what the coach wants and we are proving that every weekend.
“It is clear that not playing Europe is an advantage over other teams but we are training very well, and I think that’s the most important thing.
“That’s what is allowing us to stay free of injuries and play with almost the same eleven every weekend.”
