Michael Ballack singled out N’Golo Kante for special praise after the midfielder helped Chelsea earn a 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night.

The Blues took the lead in the 21st minute on Merseyside when David Luiz’s dipping free-kick beat Simon Mignolet in the Liverpool goal.

However, Liverpool fought back after half-time and Georginio Wijnaldum headed home an equaliser in the 57th minute at Anfield.

Diego Costa then missed a late penalty for the visitors as the two teams ended up sharing the spoils on Merseyside.

Ballack was particularly impressed by Kante’s display for the Blues against Liverpool as they maintained their place at the top of the table and stretched their lead to nine points.

Speaking during BT Sport‘s coverage of the game, Ballack said: “He was outstanding.

“When Liverpool were starting to create danger, he was there, he was stopping the ball. Everyone is watching and he is acting.

“He’s like an annoying fly – he’s always there and never gives up. He has his head up and never gets stressed. It seems like everything is easy [for him].”
