Michael Owen reacts to Man United’s 1-0 win at Saint-Etienne in Europa League
The former Manchester United striker has his say on their Europa League win at Saint-Etienne
Michael Owen praised Manchester United for a perfect away performance after Wednesday evening’s 1-0 win at Saint-Etienne.
The Red Devils travelled to France with a 3-0 aggregate lead after Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s impressive treble in the first leg of their last-32 clash at Old Trafford last week.
And Henrikh Mkhitaryan broke the deadlock in the 16th minute after the midfielder managed to get on the end of Juan Mata’s superb cross.
Unfortunately for the Armenia international, he was replaced minutes later after the Manchester United suffered a suspected hamstring injury in the first half.
The Red Devils will now be in the Europa League last-16 draw on Friday before Jose Mourinho’s side look to take on Southampton in the EFL Cup final at Wembley on Sunday.
Speaking to BT Sport, Owen heaped praise on Manchester United’s professional performance in France.
“It was perfectly done. Jose Mourinho set the tone picking that type of team. It helps when you get an early goal – and it was a fantastic goal as well,” Owen said.
Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table and 11 points adrift of current leaders Chelsea.
