Nathan Ake makes honest admission about his return to Chelsea

Nathan Ake admits that he was nervous when he was first asked to return to Chelsea from his loan spell

Nathan Ake has admitted that he was nervous about the prospect of returning to Chelsea in the January transfer window.

The Dutch defender was recalled to his parent club early after a successful loan spell at Bournemouth in the first half of the season.

Ake has thus far made just one FA Cup appearance for Chelsea since his return but will be hoping to hold down a regular spot in the first team in the coming weeks and months.

However, the youngster admits that his first reaction to receiving the call from Antonio Conte was one of nerves.

Speaking in an interview with The Daily Mail, Ake said: “I had three days off because I wasn’t in Bournemouth’s FA Cup squad. I was in Gran Canaria with my missus and the phone rang. It was the manager saying, “Can you come back?”

“If the manager calls to say you’ve done well and he wants you back then it is good, it’s a positive sign.

“But I felt a bit nervous to be honest. I hadn’t been at Chelsea for a long time. I left two years ago. It felt like a long time and I wasn’t sure how it would be.”
