Neville: This Man United player could make a massive impact after Mkhitaryan injury
Phil Neville is backing Wayne Rooney to stay at Manchester United until the end of the season
Phil Neville claims that Wayne Rooney could be set to make a massive impact at Manchester United between now and the end of the season.
The England striker’s future has been a source of relentless speculation in recent days due to his lack of playing time at Old Trafford this term.
Rooney has been linked with a big-money transfer to China in recent days, with the 31-year-old having been limited to just eight Premier League starts so far this season.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan limped off with an injury during Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Saint-Etienne in the Europa League on Wednesday night.
And Neville feels that Rooney could be set to stay at Manchester United and fight for his place between now and the end of the season.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Neville said: “I’m not going to give him advice but what I would say to him is ‘stick it out at Manchester United.
“At the moment he’s not in the team because he’s got a slight knock, but Mkhitaryan has come off injured and you never know – he could come on in the final on Sunday and make a massive impact, score, and then finish the season so well.
“You’ve seen it so many times. I don’t think he should write off his Manchester United career at this moment in time.”
Manchester United are currently preparing for their crunch EFL Cup final clash against Southampton at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.
