Paul Merson is backing Manchester United to finish in the top four this season and Chelsea to be crowned Premier League champions.

The Red Devils currently face an uphill battle to secure Champions League qualification after they ended up fifth in the table last term.

Jose Mourinho’s men have struggled to find consistent form in the Premier League this season and are currently sixth in the table and 14 points behind leaders Chelsea.

However, former Arsenal man Merson is tipping the Gunners to drop out of the top four and be replaced by Manchester United before the end of the season.

The former midfielder is also tipping Chelsea to be crowned champions, with the Blues currently flying high at the top of the Premier League table and nine points above their rivals.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Merson said: “I think Chelsea winning the title is a given. You’ve only got to look at what they’ve done to teams outside the top six, winning 15 and drawing one, and they’ve only got two more games against top-six sides left.

“Then their nearest threats Tottenham go to Liverpool next weekend so there’s a good chance they’ll be even further clear.”

He added: “I’m going for Manchester United in fourth though as I think Jose Mourinho has got them going and I’ve said from day one Mkhitaryan is a fantastic player, so having him firing is a huge boost.”
