Arsenal have finished above their bitter north London rivals regularly since Arsene Wenger has been in charge.
Spurs came close to finishing above the Gunners last term when they challenged Leicester City for the title for much of the campaign.
However, Arsenal ended up pipping the Lilywhites to second place in the table on the final day of the season.
This season looks set to be another close shootout between the two north London clubs as the race for Champions League qualification hots up.
And former Arsenal man Merson is tipping Mauricio Pochettino’s men to finish above the Gunners in the race for a top-four finish this term.
Writing in his column for The Daily Star, Merson said: “Tottenham will finish above Arsenal this year. They are a better team. And what a disaster that will be.”
Arsenal finished second in the Premier League table but without a trophy last season after winning the FA Cup in 2014 and 2015.
