Paul Scholes reacts to Man United’s 1-0 win at Saint-Etienne in Europa League
The Manchester United legend was impressed with the Red Devils's performance at Saint-Etienne
Paul Scholes praised Manchester United for a very good performance after Wednesday evening’s 1-0 win at Saint-Etienne in the Europa League.
The 20-time English champions travelled to France in a commanding position after a 3-0 victory over the Ligue 1 side in the first leg of their last-32 clash.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored a brilliant hat-trick at Old Trafford but it was another of Manchester United’s summer signings that made the breakthrough in the 16th minute.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan managed to get on the end of Juan Mata’s superb low cross and poked a finish into the Saint-Etienne net before the midfielder was replaced due to a hamstring problem.
Speaking to BT Sport about Manchester United’s comfortable win in France ahead of Sunday’s clash against Southampton in the EFL Cup final, Scholes said:
“They were a lot better at Old Trafford – that’s why he picked a strong team because he was a little bit worried. They never got going tonight. Manchester United were very good in possession, didn’t have much defending to do really and got a good goal as well.”
The Red Devils are in sixth place in the Premier League table and 11 points adrift of current leaders Chelsea in the title race.
