Paul Scholes reacts to Man United’s 2-1 win at Blackburn in FA Cup
The former Manchester United midfielder heaps praise on Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba for their impact from the bench
Paul Scholes stated that Manchester United’s back-up plan worked to perfection after a 2-1 win against Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup fifth round at Ewood Park on Sunday evening.
The Red Devils fell behind in the first half after Blackburn produced an impressive team move before ex-Swansea City striker Danny Graham broke the deadlock.
However, it wasn’t long before the visitors were level after Henrikh Mkhitaryan hit an incisive pass with the outside of his right foot which allowed Marcus Rashford to beat the Blackburn goalkeeper and restore parity.
Mourinho turned to his bench with the scoreline at 1-1 with 30 minutes remaining at Ewood Park as Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic were brought on to secure their passage into the quarter-finals of the competition.
And the world-record signing found Ibrahimovic with a pass before the 35-year-old turned on the ball and guided a finish into the far corner of the net with 15 minutes remaining in the fifth round.
Speaking to BT Sport following Manchester United’s 2-1 win, Scholes said:
“If it wasn’t going to plan, Jose Mourinho could always go to his bench. He did after an hour. Zlatan and Pogba came on. It worked to perfection. It was great play between them.”
