David Luiz takes to social media to pay tribute to Frank Lampard after his retirement from football on Thursday

David Luiz has taken to social media to pay tribute to Frank Lampard after the midfielder announced his retirement from football on Thursday.

The 38-year-old announced that he was calling time on his career after a hugely successful spell as a professional footballer.

Lampard retires as Chelsea’s all-time top goal-scorer and is widely regarded to be one of the top English midfielders of his generation.

Luiz played alongside Lampard for Chelsea during his first spell at Chelsea and was quick to pay tribute to the midfielder on social media.

The defender posted the picture above on his personal Instagram account and wrote the caption: “SUPER FRANK, SUPER FRANK, SUPER FRANK LAMPARD! The football, @chelseafc, the fans, everybody and of course I have to say thank you for u! What u did was magic,amazing and special!

“Was a pleasure to play with u! God bless u my friend! Enjoy the life! 😜 ps: don’t get too fatty ok? Lol Love you bro! And do u remember the word “BELIEVE” ? Only me and u know this moment! 👊🏻 #truelegend #inspiration”

Luiz and his Chelsea team-mates are currently gearing up for their crunch Premier League clash against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues are currently flying high at the top of the Premier League table and nine points ahead of second-placed Spurs, making them the heavy 3/10 favourites to win the title this season.
