Simon Mignolet has taken to social media to admit that he was not at his best during Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Tuesday night.

The Belgian goalkeeper was criticised for being at fault for David Luiz’s opener in the first half at Anfield as he was caught out by the dipping free-kick on Merseyside.

Liverpool equalised after the break when Georginio Wijnaldum netted a header in the 57th minute to draw Jurgen Klopp’s men level.

Mignolet then made amends for his lack of agility for Luiz’s opener when he saved Diego Costa’s late penalty at Anfield.

The goalkeeper then took to social media to reveal some of his emotions after the game.

Mignolet posted the picture above on his personal Instagram account and wrote the heartfelt caption: “Waking up with mixed emotions.

“Reflecting back on last night’s game, although I am very happy that I could help my teammates out by saving an important penalty and keeping the score at 1-1, I am gutted about the circumstance in which the free kick was scored.

“This shouldn’t detract from how well the whole team played and the resilience we showed to get ourselves back in the game and was just glad I could atone with that save. We get back into training hard and focussing now on the weekend’s match! #LFC 🔴💪🏻‼️”

Liverpool are now 10 points behind leaders Chelsea in the race for the Premier League title as they prepare for their trip to Hull City this weekend.
