Pundit reacts to Diego Costa’s display in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Wolves
Steve McManaman was very impressed by Diego Costa's contribution after Chelsea's 2-0 FA Cup win over Wolves
Steve McManaman praised Diego Costa for his tireless performance as he helped to fire Chelsea to a 2-0 win over Wolves in the FA Cup on Saturday night.
After a goalless first half at Molineux, Pedro Rodriguez gave the west London side the lead shortly after half-time when he headed home Willian’s cross.
Costa then made the victory secure when he fired home in the 89th minute from close range.
The result confirmed Chelsea’s place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup as the Blues search for an FA Cup and Premier League double this season.
And former Liverpool midfielder McManaman was thoroughly impressed by what he saw from Spain international Costa on Saturday night.
Speaking on BT Sport during the coverage of the game, McManaman said: “He worked his socks off all day. He made runs and didn’t receive the ball.
“He had his own personal battle with the two central defenders.
“When the ball does fall to someone in the penalty area, he’s there to smash it right in the back of the net. It wasn’t glamorous, but he’s always on the move.”
Chelsea now turn their attentions back to Premier League affairs and their clash with Swansea City at Stamford Bridge next weekend.
