Pundit tells Arsene Wenger: This is type of Arsenal signing required to secure success
Pat Nevin says Arsenal need to sign a power player to bolster their squad
Arsenal need to sign a power player capable of hauling Arsene Wenger’s squad through testing moments, according to Pat Nevin.
The north London side have endured another mixed campaign which has seen criticism of Wenger’s management as Arsenal look set to miss out on another Premier League crown.
The Gunners are in fourth place in the Premier League table and 10 points adrift of current leaders Chelsea despite Wenger adding five new players to his squad last summer.
Arsenal haven’t made any progress in the Champions League either, with the Gunners losing 5-1 to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in the first leg of their last-16 clash at Allianz Arena last week.
Wenger signed Granit Xhaka in a £33m deal from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach in the 2016 summer transfer window.
Speaking to Irish radio station Newstalk about what type of player Arsenal are lacking in their squad, Nevin said:
“Everyone talks about a leader but it is kind of a power player who can control things.
“We talk about these guys as if they grow on trees. They don’t! They’re hard to find the ones who can play good football, can control games and have a bit of steel about them as well and can fit within what is your vision.
“There aren’t as many around as you think and I don’t think Arsene Wenger has any.”
Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table last season and 10 points behind champions Leicester City.
