Martin Keown believes Jurgen Klopp knows that Liverpool won’t be able to catch Chelsea in the Premier League title race.

The Merseyside outfit made a promising start to the 2016-17 season but Liverpool have seen their form drop off badly in the new year.

Liverpool started 2017 a mere four points behind leaders Chelsea after a 1-0 win against title rivals Manchester City at Anfield on New Year’s Eve.

Conte, like Klopp, saw his side make a superb start to the season and the west London side managed to win 13 successive league games before a 2-0 loss at Tottenham in January.

Speaking to BT Sport ahead of Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw at Anfield, former Arsenal defender Keown claimed that Klopp will know himself Liverpool are out of the title race.

“They’d still a lot of points behind. This manager Conte went 38 games unbeaten at Juventus. In the second season they went top after the second season and in the third season they went top after the third game with a record number of points,” Keown said.

“It’s not only the Chelsea team but it’s manager that is relentless. I think Jurgen Klopp knows that. He is not going to get back to Chelsea.”

Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table last season.
