Pundit: This player key to Man United’s unbeaten run, he’s been magnificent
John Hartson heaps praise on Manchester United's magnificent summer signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been key to Manchester United’s impressive domestic run, according to John Hartson.
The former Sweden international scored a 75th-minute winner to help the Red Devils ease to a 2-1 victory over Championship side Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup fifth round on Sunday afternoon.
Ibrahimovic has now netted four times in his last two games after the striker scored a hat-trick in a 3-0 win against Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne in the first leg of their last-32 clash in the Europa League.
The 35-year-old has scored 24 goals in 39 games in all competitions in what has been a positive first season at Old Trafford for the former AC Milan and Barcelona striker.
Manchester United haven’t lost a domestic game since October when Jose Mourinho’s men suffered a 4-0 defeat by leaders Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to BBC Radio Five Live’s 606 podcast about Ibrahimovic’s impact, Hartson said:
“Manchester United are on a great run – I’m not sure whether they’d be mid-table – but certainly Zlatan’s impact has been absolutely magnificent,” Hartson said.
“He has almost won games single handedly. He is a physical presence. He is a focal point. He has a massive reputation. He is a born winner. He has won at every club that he has been at. He has won titles. He has played for some unbelievably big clubs which Manchester United are. There is no doubts about him settling in. He has settled in extremly well… He has been extraordinary as a signing.”
Ibrahimovic moved to Manchester United on a free transfer from Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
