Pundit warns Antonio Conte: Chelsea will face this challenge next season
Danny Murphy has a warning for Antonio Conte and Chelsea...
Danny Murphy has warned Antonio Conte that Chelsea will face a different challenge next season when the Premier League leaders are competing on four different fronts.
The west London side are eight points clear of second-placed Manchester City in the title race with 13 games to play in the title race.
Chelsea have benefited from a lack of European football in their first season under Antonio Conte which has given the Blues boss the chance to implement his ideas with no Champions League distraction.
However, Conte’s men look set to secure their return to Europe’s premier club competition next term barring a spectacular collapse in the final few months of the 2016-17 season.
Writing in his London Evening Standard column, former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Murphy discussed how life will alter for Chelsea next term.
“Life will soon change for Chelsea. Next season they will no longer have full weeks to prepare for matches, as they will almost certainly be involved once again in the Champions League,” Murphy said.
“It will be a different challenge for Antonio Conte and his squad but he will be thinking, ‘Bring it on’.
“long with Manchester United, Chelsea have the strongest squad in the Premier League and rather than stretching them, Europe will enable Conte to give more playing time to some of those who often find themselves on the bench.”
Chelsea finished in tenth place in the Premier League table last term after failing to defend their top-flight crown under Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink.
