Charlie Nicholas believes Liverpool aren’t good enough defensively to win the Premier League title.

The Merseyside outfit haven’t won a Premier League game in 2017 so far after a run of games without a victory despite facing relegation contenders Sunderland and Swansea City.

Liverpool restored some pride with a 1-1 draw with Premier League leaders Chelsea at Anfield on Tuesday night after Georginio Wijnaldum cancelled out David Luiz’s first-half opener.

The 18-time English champions have conceded 28 goals in 22 games in the Premier League this term despite manager Jurgen Klopp signing defenders Ragnar Klavan, Joel Matip and goalkeeper Loris Karius in the summer.

Speaking to Sky Sports after Liverpool’s 1-1 stalemate with Chelsea on Tuesday night, ex-Arsenal midfielder Nicholas was critical of Klopp’s defence.

“It was always going to be more outs than ins but while it’s great holding on to Philippe Coutinho, I feel Liverpool are not good enough defensively to win the title and they could even be suspect when it comes to finishing top four. That would be a shocker for them,” Nicholas said.

Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table last term after Klopp took over the reins from Brendan Rodgers back in October 2015.

The Reds signed seven players in the summer transfer window, including Sadio Mane in a £34m deal from Southampton.
