Pundit: Why N’Golo Kante will be better than Claude Makelele at Chelsea
N'Golo Kante has the potential to develop in to a top player for Chelsea, according to Ray Wilkins
N’Golo Kante has the potential to develop into a better player for Chelsea than Claude Makelele because of his better range of passing, according to Ray Wilkins.
The French midfielder has earned plenty of new admirers since breaking into the Chelsea first-team under Antonio Conte this season following his switch from Leicester in the summer.
Kante was one of the Premier League’s top performers last season as he helped the Foxes win the title in style.
The midfielder has continued his fine form for the Blues and has been a regular fixture in the Chelsea side this term to help them build a nine-point lead at the top of the premier League table.
Kante has already earned comparisons to Chelsea legend Makelele, and Wilkins is predicting big things for the France international at Stamford Bridge in the seasons to come.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ on Tuesday, Wilkins said: “N’Golo Kante has brought out the best in Nemanja Matic. We’re seeing performing to a really high level again.
“The one thing Kante has over Claude Makelele is his range of passing.
“There was a pass on Saturday against Arsenal where he broke and crashed a 60-yard pass to Eden Hazard – I wouldn’t have seen Makelele do that.
“I think he could be better than Makelele.”
