Rio Ferdinand believes that Chelsea deserve credit for the “grittiness” they have shown this season under Antonio Conte.

The Blues have established themselves as the firm favourites to win the Premier League title this season thanks to their impressive form under their new manager.

Chelsea played out a 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night as the Blues moved nine points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Liverpool are now 10 points behind the west London side as they look to keep themselves in the race for the Premier League title this season.

However, Ferdinand feels that Chelsea are in a much more advanced stage of development than Liverpool at this current point in time.

Speaking to BT Sport on Tuesday night, Ferdinand said: “When you look at this Chelsea team there’s a lot more experience in there than the Liverpool team. There are players who have won leagues.

“There is a grittiness to this Chelsea team. They do it ugly as well as pretty.

“There’s a lot more to this Chelsea team than Liverpool at the moment but they are in different stages of development.”
