Rio Ferdinand has accused Arsenal of once again failing to capitalise on their rivals’ slip-ups in the wake of their shock 2-1 loss to Watford on Tuesday night.

The Gunners were sent crashing to a surprise home defeat by the Hornets at The Emirates as they lost further ground in the race for the title.

The result was made all the more frustrating for Arsenal fans because their rivals Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham all dropped Premier League points in midweek.

And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand feels that Arsenal must learn to see off the lower teams even when they are not playing well if they want to win the title.

Speaking on BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight show, Ferdinand said: “When you’re going towards winning the league, home form is paramount.

“Against teams like Watford, no disrespect, you set out to win those games and invariably, the champions will dismantle those teams, or they’ll scruffily nick a 1-0.

“Arsenal don’t seem to be able to do that. They just don’t grasp their opportunities and it’s a shame.”
