Rio Ferdinand: This would never have happened under Sir Alex Ferguson at Man United

Rio Ferdinand discusses Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard's recent antics on social media amid Manchester United's struggles

Rio Ferdinand has criticised Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard for their recent posts on social media as Manchester United continue to struggle.

Pogba and Lingard were pictured dancing in the dressing room at the Red Devils’ Carrington training ground ahead of Manchester United’s goalless draw with Hull City on Wednesday night.

Ferdinand was not impressed to see the duo show off their dance moves on social media given Manchester United’s current struggles.

The Red Devils are 14 points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea and are in sixth place in the table after a stuttering start under new boss Jose Mourinho.

And Ferdinand has claimed that a situation like this one would never have arisen under former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ferdinand told BT Sport: “I’ve dug out Arsenal players for things like this before and it would be wrong of me not to speak about the United players,” he said.

“I’m all for having fun and I think part of Pogba’s appeal especially is that he is a happy free spirit which I wouldn’t want to take away from. But I think there’s timing and there’s getting the balance right when you’re doing these things.

“If that comes out just after you’ve just got to a cup final, you’ve won the cup final, won the league or something like that, listen I’d be pushing that out all over. I’d be the first one to be doing that.

“Looking at myself, the way I think about it, we’re fifth in the league, we’re fighting for the Champions League position, we haven’t got our hands on any silverware yet. I’d want to keep myself under the radar a little bit until we get to that point.”

He added: “If Fergie was there, no chance.”
