Roy Keane: Arsenal only have this many decent players, the rest are average
The former Manchester United captain has his say on Arsenal after their Champions League humiliation
Roy Keane has claimed that Arsene Wenger only has two decent players in his Arsenal squad.
The Gunners lost 5-1 to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash on Wednesday night.
Alexis Sanchez cancelled out Arjen Robben’s opener before goals from Robert Lewandowski, Thiago Alcantara and Thomas Muller sealed a comfortable win for the hosts.
Arsenal have failed to reach the last 16 of the competition in the last six seasons and have never won Europe’s premier club competition.
Keane has been an outspoken critic of Wenger’s players over the past few campaigns following their dismal showings against some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
And perhaps unsurprisingly, the Manchester United legend didn’t hold back in his assessment of Arsenal’s performance after their 5-1 loss at Bayern.
“Did you think they’d go to Bayern Munich and get a result?” Keane told ITV Sport.
“We’ve said it before, though. Lack of leaders, lack of characters, hunger, desire. But I have to say, tonight at this level, this stage of the competition, they’re just not good enough.
“So there’s no point in being too critical of them, because they’re not good enough.
“They’ve only got two decent players. The rest, average.”
Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table last season but 10 points behind champions Leicester City.
The Gunners are currently in fourth place in the Premier League table.
