Steven Gerrard: This is why Chelsea will win the title this season

Steven Gerrard discusses Chelsea's hopes of winning the Premier League title this season

Steven Gerrard believes that Chelsea’s rivals’ failure to capitalise on results is the main reason why the Blues are the favourites to win the title this season.

The Blues extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to nine points on Tuesday night when they played out a 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield.

That result meant that the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham could have closed the gap to the leaders, but Spurs were held to a draw by Southampton and the Gunners lost to Watford.

Chelsea now head into their crunch clash with Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Saturday lunchtime in a strong position and as the firm favourites to win the title this term.

And former Liverpool captain Gerrard feels that Chelsea have been able to benefit from their rivals’ sloppy form in recent weeks.

Speaking on BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight show on Tuesday night, Gerrard said: “It’s not just Arsenal, it happened to Liverpool a couple of weeks ago against Swansea.

“The reason why Chelsea will probably go on and win the title is because Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal have those types of results in their locker.”
