Tottenham star reveals ex-midfielder’s role in his career: He’s always there to give advice
Harry Winks lifts the lid on the role that Scott Parker has played in his blossoming Tottenham career
Harry Winks has lifted the lid on the role that Scott Parker has played in his development at Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham will come up against the former midfielder in the FA Cup fifth round at Craven Cottage on Sunday afternoon as Parker looks to captain Fulham against his old employers.
Parker spent two seasons at White Hart Lane between 2011 and 2013 before the defensive midfielder moved to the west London side in 2013.
Winks signed a new contract with the north London side this week as the 21-year-old looks to establish himself in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad after making 26 appearances so far this term.
The English starlet was on the fringes of the Tottenham squad during Parker’s two-year spell at White Hart Lane.
And Winks has revealed that Parker was a figure of inspiration and was also willing to offer the youngster advice during his early years at the north London club – adding that the pair have stayed in touch.
“Scott is a great player and a top, top person off the field as well,” Winks told Tottenham’s website.
“Since he left the club he’s always told me I can stay in touch with him and get advice from him here and there and every time he pops into the training ground or if I drop him a text, he’s always there to give me some advice.
“He was brilliant when he came to Tottenham and his career, even before he was here, speaks for itself. He’s a player who was welcomed by the Spurs fans, he had a very good time here and he’s a top quality player anyway so if I can take any little bits from his game then I’ll be delighted.”
Tottenham will make the short trip to Fulham in the FA Cup fifth round on Sunday afternoon.
