Charlie Nicholas states his prediction for Tottenham v Gent
Charlie Nicholas looks ahead to Tottenham's clash with Gent in the Europa League on Thursday night
Charlie Nicholas is backing Tottenham to book their place in the Europa League last 16 by beating Gent 3-0 on Thursday night.
The Lilywhites head into the game looking to bounce back from their 1-0 loss to the Belgian side last week.
Mauricio Pochettino successfully steered his side into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with a 3-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage over the weekend.
And Arsenal legend Pochettino is fully expecting to see Spurs secure their place in the last 16 of Europe’s second tier club competition on Thursday night when they host Gent at Wembley.
Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Nicholas said: “Tottenham were dreadful last Thursday but they found a way to bounce back against Fulham, which I thought as a dangerous tie.
“When Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Heung-Min Son are getting on the ball early then you know they are going to cause problems, and that was the difference between the two teams.
“They’ve got Stoke at home on Sunday so I think he’ll give a few more fringe players a chance than in the FA Cup, but Gent are an average team and I wouldn’t be surprised if Spurs won 3-0 even with a few changes.”
Tottenham have endured a disappointing few weeks in the title race, with the Lilywhites having dropped down into third place in the Premier League following their 2-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield last time out.
The north London side are aiming to finish in the top four once again this season after they ended up third last term.
