Paul Merson is tipping Tottenham to secure a comfortable 3-0 win over Middlesbrough at White Hart Lane on Saturday night.

Spurs were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Sunderland in midweek and will be keen to return to winning ways when they host Boro in north London.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham head into this weekend’s round of fixtures in second place in the Premier League table and nine points behind leaders Chelsea.

The Lilywhites are are looking to go one better this season after they finished third in the table last term behind champions Leicester and second-placed Arsenal.

And former Arsenal star Merson cannot envisage anything but a Spurs victory against Boro on Saturday night at White Hart Lane.

Writing in his column for Sky Sports, former Arsenal man Merson said:” Middlesbrough are quite solid at the back but they don’t score enough goals. They are not going to blow Tottenham away and if Spurs get an early goal they could run away with it.

“Middlesbrough will set up to make things difficult for Tottenham but Mauricio Pochettino’s side need to win this game.

“It was a poor result against Sunderland but I expect them to bounce back.”
