Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Wolves v Chelsea
Mark Lawrenson looks ahead to Chelsea's FA Cup clash with Wolves on Saturday night in the fifth round
Mark Lawrenson is tipping Chelsea to edge to a 1-0 win over Wolves in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Saturday night.
The west London side head into the game in fine form after having built an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League table and establishing themselves as the heavy favourites to win the title.
Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw by Burnley at Turf Moor in the top flight last weekend but will be looking to continue their march towards a domestic trophy double when they take on Wolves this weekend.
Antonio Conte has had an instant impact at Stamford Bridge following his arrival at the club last summer.
The Blues’ remarkable upturn in form has been in stark contrast to their struggles last season, when they ended up 10th and without a trophy.
And former Liverpool man Lawrenson is tipping Chelsea to take a step closer towards winning the FA Cup by beating Wolves 1-0 on Saturday.
Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “I was at Wolves’ 2-1 win over Liverpool in the last round and they had a real go.
“Their left-sided attacker Helder Costa looked a real handful that day and two days later Wolves announced that they had bought him for £13m on a permanent deal. One way or another, I think he will end up in the Premier League soon.
“Chelsea looked very good for the first 20 minutes of their draw against Burnley, but were pretty ordinary for the next 70. They didn’t get beaten though and that is why they are going to win the league.
“They may not be involved in any other competitions, but manager Antonio Conte won’t want the bother of a replay.”
