Jose Mourinho delivers difficult verdict ahead of Man United v FC Rostov

The Manchester United manager isn't ruling out FC Rostov of the last-16 tie despite their 1-1 draw in Russia

Jose Mourinho has warned Manchester United that it is far from job done despite the Red Devils easing to a 1-1 draw with FC Rostov in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

The 20-time English champions made the long trip to Russia just days ahead of their away trip to Chelsea in the FA Cup quarter-final as Manchester United look to complete a unique treble.

Mourinho’s side made the breakthrough in the first half thanks to Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s close-range finish as the Armenia international continued his fine record in the Europa League this term.

However, FC Rostov hit back in the second half to give themselves a fighting chance of overturning the away goal in the return leg at Old Trafford next week.

Speaking at his post-match media conference about the result, Mourinho warned that Manchester United have a more testing fixture at the weekend before the two sides renew their rivalry.

“I don’t think it’s a problem for them to go to Old Trafford and play us. They play Sunday against Terek Grozny, we play Monday against Chelsea – they know they have more time.

“It’s more difficult but we are one step from the quarter-finals. Old Trafford will push us and hopefully we’ll get to the quarter-finals.”

Manchester United finished in fifth place in the Premier League last season.
