Pundit tells Liverpool to sell Philippe Coutinho
Stan Collymore says Liverpool would be wise to cash in on Philippe Coutinho should one of the big Spanish clubs come calling
Stan Collymore has told Liverpool to consider selling Philippe Coutinho to one of Spain’s big clubs – because he’s inconsistent.
Coutinho is widely regarded to be one of the Premier League’s top attacking talents but has struggled to produce consistent performances for Jurgen Klopp’s men in recent weeks after being hampered by injury.
The Brazilian playmaker joined Liverpool from Inter Milan back in January 2013 and has earned a reputation as one of the Reds’ most exciting attackers.
However, former Liverpool man Collymore feels that the Reds should cash in on Coutinho if the right offer arrives in the summer transfer window.
Writing in his column for Boylesports, Collymore said: “Coutinho is a great six games a season player, when we all salute his little genius, goals and creativity and I know he’s been injured but I’m just not sure Liverpool will ever be able to hang their hat on him to guarantee big performances week in, week out.
“The fact Lallana and Mane have kicked on under Klopp so much more than the little Brazilian tells my intuition that if one of the Iberian giants were to tickle the Reds fancy, even having signed a bumper contract, I personally would sell him if the price were right.”
Liverpool are currently in fourth place in the Premier League table after their 1-1 draw with Manchester City at The Etihad last Sunday.
Klopp is bidding to steer the Reds back into the Champions League in his first full campaign in charge after their eighth-placed finish last season.
