Ander Herrera earns praise from Man United star after Chelsea win
Jesse Lingard singled out Ander Herrera for special praise after Manchester United's 2-0 win over Chelsea
Jesse Lingard singled out Ander Herrera for special praise after his sparkling performance in Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday.
The Spaniard was named as the man of the match as he scored one goal and set up the other to help Jose Mourinho’s men secure an impressive win over the Premier League leaders.
Herrera slid Marcus Rashford through on goal in the seventh minute for the opener, before he drilled home a deflected shot to make it 2-0 shortly after half-time.
And Lingard was particularly impressed by the Spaniard’s performance for the Red Devils at Old Trafford against the Blues.
Speaking to MUTV after the game, Lingard said: “He put in a real shift. He was all over the place and we need individuals to do their jobs so that it comes together as a collective performance.
“It was tough, especially for the forward players doing all the running, but you know you have to put in a shift to get a good performance. We knew we had to close them down.
“We couldn’t let the defenders bring the ball out and play and we knew if we did that then the players behind us, the midfield and defence, would do their job of marking the players behind us.”
Herrera and Lingard will be expecting to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Europa League action on Thursday night with a home clash against Anderlecht.
The two sides played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the quarter-final tie last week in Belgium.
