Rio Ferdinand praised Arsenal’s “dogged” performance as they came from a goal down to beat Manchester City to reach the FA Cup final.

The north London side fell behind in the semi-final at Wembley in the 62nd minute when Sergio Aguero put Pep Guardiola’s men in front.

However, Nacho Monreal equalised for the Gunners shortly after when he converted Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s cross to force the game into extra-time.

And it was Alexis Sanchez who had the final say, as he drilled home from close range in the first half of extra-time to secure Arsenal’s spot in the final.

Speaking on BT Sport after the final whistle, Ferdinand said: “This wasn’t your typical Arsenal performance by any stretch of the imagination.

“This was a dogged performance, and what they were looking for to get through a game like this.

“It’s not about the performance, it’s about results. And well done to them, they got the result and they deserved it.”

The win sets up an FA Cup final showdown with Chelsea at Wembley next month as the Gunners look to end the season on a high.
