Ian Wright singled out Gabriel Paulista for special praise after Arsenal's 2-1 FA Cup semi-final win over Manchester City
Ian Wright lavished praise on Gabriel Paulista for his impressive display in Arsenal’s 2-1 FA Cup semi-final win over Manchester City on Sunday.
The Brazilian defender started alongside Rob Holding and Laurent Koscielny in a defensive back three for the north London side and impressed as he helped Arsenal book their place in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
Nacho Monreal cancelled out Sergio Aguero’s opener in the second half to make it 1-1 and force the game into extra-time.
And it was Alexis Sanchez who scored the eventual winner when he fired home from close range in the 101st minute to send Arsenal into the final against Chelsea next month.
Speaking on BT Sport after the game, Arsenal legend Wright singled Gabriel out for special praise for his strong performance for the Gunners.
Wright said: “I’ve given Gabriel stick in the past because he has looked out of sorts at times, like a scared rabbit. But today he was brilliant, he was fantastic.
“I thought Olivier Giroud didn’t turn up today and Mesut Ozil was disappointing but there were enough performances from other players.”
Arsenal now turn their attentions back to Premier League affairs and their home clash against Leicester City at The Emirates on Wednesday night.
Chelsea beat Tottenham 4-2 at Wembley in the other semi-final on Saturday.
