Marcel Desailly believes that Arsenal will struggle for “two or three” years when Arsene Wenger calls time on his spell at the club.

The Frenchman’s situation at The Emirates has been a constant source of speculation in recent weeks following Arsenal’s dismal run of form in all competitions.

Wenger watched his Arsenal side slump to a 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace on Monday night as they lost further ground in the race for Champions League qualification.

The Arsenal manager’s situation has been made all the more uncertain by the fact that his current contract at the north London club is due to expire at the end of the season.

It remains to be seen whether Wenger will stay on at Arsenal beyond the summer, but Chelsea legend Desailly feels that the Gunners will face a significant tough spell when the Frenchman does move on.

Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Tuesday, Desailly said: “I didn’t see the game [Palace 3-0 Arsenal], but if you’ve said that they’ve lost, Arsenal supporters should again be very very disappointed.

“It’s not about Wenger, it’s about what the chairman wants. They are the ones who have to come out and say something.

“Either we’ll keep Arsene because it’s the idea, philosophy and projection that they have, or they have to change it and know that it will be two or three difficult years afterwards.”
