Jamie Carragher uses Chelsea to make point about Arsenal
Jamie Carragher has his say about Arsenal's recent dismal run of form in the Premier League
Jamie Carragher has used one of Chelsea’s dismal performances last season to draw similarities between the Blues and Arsenal’s current plight.
Arsenal have been in dire form in recent weeks and slumped to a dismal 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace on Monday night as they suffered another blow to their hopes of finishing in the top four this season.
The Gunners were widely criticised for their failure to gain a foothold in the game as they were comprehensively beaten by Sam Allardyce’s men at Selhurst Park.
The result has heaped further pressure on under-fire manager Arsene Wenger as the Frenchman looks to steer the north London side back into the top four before the season is out.
Chelsea endured a difficult season last term and Carragher pointed to the Blues’ 2-1 loss to Leicester City back in December 2015 towards the end of Jose Mourinho’s reign as a similar example of players not performing for their manager.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher said: “It takes me back to a performance last year on Monday Night Football against Leicester, when we said afterwards that the Chelsea players chucked it for Jose Mourinho.
“It looks like the Arsenal players have chucked it. That’s four (away) games on the bounce conceding three in all of them.”
Arsenal return to Premier League action with a trip to Middlesbrough on Monday night.
