Jack Wilshere has insisted that he will always be grateful to Arsene Wenger as the pressure continues to mount on the under-fire Arsenal boss.

The Arsenal manager’s situation has been a constant source of speculation in recent weeks after his side’s dismal run of form in the Premier League left them facing an uphill battle to secure Champions League qualification.

Indeed, Arsenal have only won two of their last eight Premier League games to leave their top-four hopes in tatters as they chase Champions League qualification.

Wilshere was deemed to be surplus to requirements at Arsenal this season by Wenger and was shipped out on loan to Bournemouth.

However, the England star insists that he will always have huge amounts of respect for the Frenchman.

Wilshere told Sky Sports: “He [Wenger] has always been great for me. He put me in at a young age which you don’t see a lot at top clubs with all the pressure for trophies.

“He stuck with me and showed faith in me. So for me he’s great and I can’t imagine Arsenal without him. He has been great for me and that’s all I can say.

“Sometimes a manager can only do so much, as in prepare a team and then the team have to go out there and perform.

“Again all I can say is that he has been great for me. I’ve been away for a year so I don’t know what’s happening there, in the dressing room or what training has been like.

“All I can do is help Bournemouth then go back at the end of the season.”

Arsenal are currently gearing up for their Premier League clash against Middlesbrough on Monday night as they look to get back to winning ways after their 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace last week.
