Mauricio Pochettino sends message to Arsenal: Tottenham don’t care about this
Mauricio Pochettino insists that Tottenham are not focused on finishing above Arsenal this season
Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that Tottenham are not bothered about finishing above Arsenal this season and are instead focused on “bigger” objectives.
Pochettino’s Tottenham side have been in fine form this season and are Chelsea’s closest challengers for the Premier League title.
Spurs kept to within four points of leaders Chelsea with a battling 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Wednesday night.
The Lilywhites now turn their attentions towards their crunch clash with Arsenal at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.
Victory for Pochettino’s men in that game would guarantee that Tottenham will finish above Arsenal in the Premier League for the first time in 22 years.
However, Spurs boss Pochettino has insisted that he is more focused on helping his team progress in the coming seasons than their record against their local rivals.
Pochettino told Sky Sports on Wednesday night: “That is no motivation, and no distraction.
“What happens at the end of the season, we will see. Our focus is trying to win.
“We are not thinking to be above Arsenal, our challenge is to reduce the gap with Chelsea and think of bigger things than only to be above Arsenal.
“One day to achieve big trophies, you must be mentally bigger. You must think about bigger dreams.”
Tottenham ended up third in the table and behind Arsenal and Leicester City last season.
