Paul Merson states his prediction for Arsenal v West Ham
Paul Merson believes even inconsistent Arsenal will be able to capitalise on West Ham's poor form at The Emirates on Wednesday night
Paul Merson is backing Arsenal to take advantage of West Ham United’s poor form and return to winning ways at The Emirates on Wednesday night.
The Gunners played out a 2-2 draw with top-six rivals Manchester City in north London on Sunday afternoon after Arsene Wenger’s side twice came from behind.
Arsenal have only managed to win one of their last six games in the Premier League following losses to Chelsea, Liverpool, Watford and West Bromwich Albion.
West Ham, on the other hand, haven’t won a game since 4 February when the Hammers eased to a 3-1 win against Southampton at St Mary’s.
Indeed, the Hammers have failed to win their last five Premier League fixtures to leave Bilic’s men struggling in the lower half of the Premier League table.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Arsenal’s clash against West Ham on Wednesday night, Merson backed the home side to edge to a 2-1 win against the Hammers.
“I like Slaven Bilic, I think he’s a good manager, but it’s just one of those seasons. West Ham are struggling at the moment, and you’d expect Arsenal to win this game with the way the Hammers are playing,” Merson said.
“The last 20 minutes against Man City for Arsenal was like an Emirates Cup game, like Austria v West Germany in the World Cup many years back. It was like: “That’s a draw, we’re both happy with that.” Neither side wanted to lose.
“West Ham are struggling, so I’m going with Arsenal.”
Arsenal are in sixth place in the Premier League table.
