Chelsea will edge one step closer to the Premier League title with victory over Bournemouth on Saturday evening, according to Paul Merson.

The Premier League leaders made an immediate returning to winning ways on Wednesday night after a surprise 2-1 loss to strugglers Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge last weekend.

Indeed, Chelsea eased to a 2-1 victory over top-four rivals Manchester City thanks to Eden Hazard’s double which left the west London side seven points clear of their closest rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs have the chance to cut Chelsea’s lead to four points on Saturday afternoon when Mauricio Pochettino’s side take on Watford at White Hart Lane in the early kick-off this weekend.

However, former Arsenal midfielder Merson doesn’t expect Chelsea to falter even if Tottenham beat Watford and put their London rivals under more pressure at the top of the table.

“The pressure will be on Chelsea if Spurs win earlier in the day and make the gap closer than it’s been in a while,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“Bournemouth are a real bag of Revels because you don’t know what you’re going to get from them. They could give Chelsea a real game or get absolutely thumped.

“But I expect Chelsea to win this.”
