Pundit reacts to Cesc Fabregas’ display in Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Man City
Glenn Hoddle was full of praise for Cesc Fabregas after Chelsea's 2-1 win over Manchester City in the Premier League on Wednesday night
Glenn Hoddle singled Cesc Fabregas out for special praise after his impressive performance in Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Manchester City in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
The Spaniard was restored to the starting line-up for Antonio Conte’s side and played a part in the second goal as he was involved in the build-up to Chelsea’s penalty in the first half.
Eden Hazard gave the Blues the lead with a first-time shot, before the Belgian put the home side in front again from the penalty spot after Sergio Aguero had equalised for the visitors.
Fabregas started the game ahead of Nemanja Matic and played 81 minutes in west London.
And former Tottenham and England manager Hoddle was very impressed by what he saw from the former Arsenal captain on Wednesday night.
Speaking during BT Sport‘s coverage of the game, Hoddle said: “He was very good. He played in a deeper role but was always looking to pass forward.
“He always looks forward and that’s the beauty of his play. He pushed forward a little bit more in the second half behind Diego Costa but they didn’t really give him the ball.
“When he’s in that deeper role he goes from defence to attack so quickly with the passes that he’s got.”
Fabregas has scored for goals and made seven assists in 21 Premier League games so far this season.
Chelsea remain seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table as they prepare for their Premier League trip to Bournemouth on Saturday evening.
