Chelsea boss Antonio Conte makes summer transfer claim about Man United
Antonio Conte is expecting to see both Manchester clubs splash the cash in the summer transfer window
Antonio Conte has claimed that Manchester United and Manchester City are likely to outspend Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils were one of the Premier League’s biggest spending clubs last summer as they brought in Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan following Jose Mourinho’s appointment at the club.
Chelsea also brought in a number of new players, including Marcos Alonso, N’Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi.
However, Conte feels that both Manchester clubs are poised to spend more than his team in the forthcoming summer transfer window.
Asked if he expects Manchester United and Manchester City to spend more money than Chelsea again this summer, Conte told a news conference at Cobham on Monday: “Yes, like every year.
“You’ve seen the past. You can see that every season they spend a lot of money
“I don’t want to go into the situation of the other teams, other clubs, other managers. Every single club decides their own strategy.
“But, if you ask me, this season isn’t the only season the Manchester clubs have spent a lot of money.
“Look at the past. It’s normal for them. It’s right for them to do this, to reinforce their teams, if they think this is the right way to win the title.
“But, for us I repeat, this season is very important because we are trying to build something important for the present, to put the foundations down and be strong, stronger for the future. And to build, also, slowly slowly to become a real power. A real power in the future.”
Chelsea, who finished 10th last season, are currently top of the Premier League table as they chase a domestic double in Conte’s first season at the club.
The Blues will take on Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley next month following their thrilling 4-2 win over Tottenham in the semi-finals on Saturday.
