Cesc Fabregas has admitted that he was very surprised to hear that John Terry would be quitting Chelsea at the end of the season.

The veteran defender confirmed the news that he would be leaving Stamford Bridge at the end of the season as he brings down the curtain on a glittering career in west London.

It remains to be seen whether Terry will join another Premier League club or move abroad for next season.

However, Fabregas has vowed to do everything he can to help Terry enjoy a successful final season at Stamford Bridge.

Fabregas told Chelsea’s website: “The news did come as a surprise.

“There was a lot of talk and speculation that it could be his last year but we didn’t know for sure. I think it’s a very personal decision between him and the club.

“It’s a shame because I cannot see anyone replacing the role he does in the team. He is irreplaceable for now.

“We will miss him and hopefully we can lift two trophies at the end of the season for him. That would be amazing.”

Terry has found his first-team opportunities at Stamford Bridge to be significantly restricted under Antonio Conte this season.

The defender has only made five Premier League appearances for the Blues so far this season but will be hoping to help Chelsea win a Premier League and FA Cup double as he bids to end his career in west London on a high.
